The much-awaited Lucknow Mahotsav will finally be held from January 24 onwards. The six-day mahotsav will be part of the UP Diwas celebrations to be held at Awadh Shilp Gram in Gomti Nagar Extension on Shaheed Path. The mahotsav, which till now was organised every year from November 25 to December 4, had been deferred due to the civic polls in the city. The administration had also mulled over having the mahotsav in April next year, after the board exams. But according to officials in the district administration, the mahotsav will now be held from January 24, coinciding with the celebrations of the state’s first foundation day, which is being celebrated as UP Diwas.
The decision was taken at a meeting convened on Saturday by Anil Garg, the Lucknow Divisional Commissioner. “Although what all cultural events will be organised during the two events is yet to be decided, what has been finalised are the dates for the kite-flying competition, which will be held on January 26 and a vintage car rally, to be held on January 28, respectively,” said an official from the administration, adding, “Since UP Diwas is also being celebrated simultaneously, there is expected to be a big line-up of performances by renowned artistes during those six-days.”
The news was also confirmed by Kaushal Raj Sharma, district magistrate, Lucknow, that the Lucknow Mahotsav will be organised along with UP Diwas from January 24 onwards.
The DM also said that like every year, this time too, the theme of the mahotsav will be decided based on suggestions sent in by the public. Meanwhile, the theme for UP Diwas will be ‘One District, One Product’ in which each district of the state will get an opportunity to display their products at the fair.
